Even though the lake is only 75 years old it is rich in history. The first settlers in the Ozarks hills were the Osage Indians. Also Lewis and Clark were the first to describe the natural wonders in the Ozark mountains. The first meeting of the Ozage Indians was probably around 1710 when Frenchman named Claude DuTissent visited and Hunted with the indians. You can thank the French for helping name this part of the country. They had a post on the Arkansas River, the name was shortened to Aux-Arcs pronounced Ozark.
